Need opinions. I’m currently in the middle of my build. 1988 ranger single cab. Need some opinions for spring rate. 2.5 coils and 2.5 bypass. I have a 50 gallon fuel cell (don’t want to fill with fuel to get weight to measure) behind axle. And 2 37” spares I have a 225 over 250 spring seems way too much. Thinking about trying 150over 225. Pics are my set up. Please be easy on me. I’m 21 my first build. Trying to learn wherever I can get any info. I’m in Michigan.

Do not focus on springs until you’ve added all the weight in the back so you don’t have to buy the springs multiple times. On a light weight package I start with 250/350 and work my way up depending on how much the spring is crushing out at ride height.
I have figured out a new way to judge spring rates on a 2.5. With all the weight at Ride Heights you want 9/16 of an inch between each coil spring and if a 9/16 bolt does not fit, you are too light of a spring rate, but if a 5/8 bolt jingles around in each coil, then it’s too heavy of a spring rate.

Much appreciated your reply. Was just a little worried that I had made a mistake somewhere. With my set up with zero preload. Had two of my friends stop by. The 3 of us are about 450 pounds together. Stood on the back. Only compressed around 4 inches. Not close to ride height. But I am taking your advice. I’ll worry about rear springs after every thing in the back is mounted and full tank. Thanks again.
