Also…my fuel tank is leaking again from the small dings it has in it on the bottom from not having a skid and rocks flying up and hitting it. Probably just buy a replacement from cockauto and be done with it. Turns out JB weld will only hold up to fuel for a limited time…. Weird 😅
Weld it.

Not a lot to report at the moment. Other than I ordered the wrong gear set and setup kit from Marlin. So I ended up paying a restock fee and having to pay full price because Difftober was over 🤡 Turns out I have a V6 rear differential so that’s neat.

I do have a new fuel tank sitting here ready to go in as well. IMG_5922.webp

Can’t wait for this to be my view in 67 days 🤘😎 it’s a long trek from South Dakota but it’ll be worth it!!

Lil update! 4runner is mostly ready for 8 days of thrashing at KOH. Just need to do a bolt check and load it full of tools, fluids, and some spare parts.

Got the rear differential installed so I’m going to drive it to work for the next couple weeks to get it broke in then I’ll flush it before I load it on the trailer. Should be good to go. Forgot to take any pictures.

Decided last minute to order a 40” roof lightbar. I had one in my last 4runner and it’s pretty handy in the desert. Plus I like how it looks.

Replaced the fuel tank with a rockauto special as well. No more seepage.

Well it was “KOH ready” yesterday. Today is a different story. Been putting some miles on the new rear diff to break it in. Upon deceleration I’m getting a howling noise. Decided to pull rear shaft and back the pinion nut off a 1/4 turn. Didn’t like how much in and out play it has so put it comes…in the driveway 🙃 Tomorrow I’ll take it to my diff guy and we’ll look it over. Upon inspection everything looks fine but I don’t know what I’m looking at either 😅 Anyways. If you have friends prepping for KOH, check on them. They’re probably not well!

Well I thought I was ready for KOH…but turns out I’ve been breaking in 4.88 gears for the last two weeks 🙃 I ordered V6 5.29’s and that’s what was printed on the Yukon box. So I handed that box to my gear guy and he set them up. Went to put it in 4wd for the first time and the truck started bucking like hell. Jacked it up and checked tire rotation vs pinion. Was getting just shy of 5 tuns out of the tire for every full tire rotation. Pull the 3rd back out and this is what I see 🤦🏻‍♂️ I guess it’s my fault for not checking the etching on the gears and comparing to the packaging.

Luckily it’s all going to work out. Yukon offered to have me ship these broken in 4.88’s back even without the proper packaging and they would send 5.29’s. But as it turns out I have a buddy who needs 4.88’s and is in the market for a locker as well. So the plan is to sell my 3rd to him and pick up a complete rear axle in Salt Lake on the way to hammers that has 5.29 gears and the same Detroit I have for the same money. For now I have my gear guys spare 5.29 welded diff installed. Once we hit the lakebed I’ll be swapping it out first thing to change it out with the one I bought. So if you see this thing on the trailer torn apart just know it’ll be the 5th time I’ve had it apart in under 2 months LMAO
