Trying a pumpkin patch this year again.

Last year the ground squirrels and gophers ran a muck and destroyed everything….

I’ve been able to keep on top of the critter population this year so far

I got a truck load full of the nursary garden soil. I mixed in the garden soil with the native and made mounds. 6” to 8” above the ground
April 27th


I planted 4 to 6 seeds in each mound.

May 15th they are starting to pop up

there are male and female flowers, the female flowers usually have little bulbs on the bottom of the flower, once pollinated they will start to grow

If I can keep the squirrel and gophers population low we should have some pretty good pumpkins this year.

Nice! The pumpkin we bought in September finally died on our front porch, so I planted about 50 of the seeds in our garden. It’s been just under two weeks and they’re already 6”. Pretty wild seeing how fast they grow

It’s wild how fast they grow, a very rewarding plant forsure, every day there is some new growth or a new pumpkin.

I planted a pretty big variety of pumpkins but I’m not sure what I planted where. This one should be interesting

I’m curious if that big ol green bastard will just keep growing till October or if it will mature in August.

But everything seems to be growing right along I cut back the watering a little bit due to some yellowing of the older leaves

I had to trash about ten pumpkins and the vines started to die off because my water controller valve kept resetting and loosing the program. I switched to a soaker line instead of a drip and the vines seem to be much happier.

Unfortunately most of the pumpkins I had to toss were those big ass orange ones. They ripened up real quick when they ran out of water. But since changing my water schedule it looks like we have a bunch of carving pumpkins coming in strong and we still have two months lol
