What’s the best way to plan such a trip? More overlandy vs rock crawly 2wd friendly. Want to do it over a couple or few days thinking next year for RATR. I haven’t been to Laughlin for a race weekend in years and I know people run the Mojave trial to RATR but starting in Barstow doenst sound fun. I’d rather start / end closer to home.

Not opposed to some highway and would need to figure out ~ 200 miles then fuel stops in a town.

I plan everything on Google Earth by picking points of interest and connecting the dots with as much dirt as possible.

Big bear to Laughlin is pretty straightforward, and there are quite a few different route possibilities.

You could go Temecula to Pioneer Town then up into big bear.

-or-

Temecula toward Julian, then up toward Idyllwild(some dirt) —> banning(some more dirt)—> yucaipa(pavement to the hwy38) then dirt up to Angelus oaks, down into seven oaks, up Clark’s grade into big bear, then myriad routes down into the dezert from there.

The Yucaipa to big bear route via Angelus oaks and Clark’s grade might be closed because there was just a fucking huge fire up there…

I can discuss further when I have more time over the weekend.
