Summer wheeling in Ouray CO?

Makes a lot of sense.

Yes financing is creating the ease of purchase but it's all about dollar and cents so they aren't going anywhere and they will only get easier to buy as the years go on.

I agree, they are here to stay... The only thing I see putting a hurt on the SXS industry at any point would be insurance costs and/or regulation that way. I've never owned a SxS but I imagine its probably not getting any cheaper to insure them as time goes.

Theyre not bad with no major claims, $40-$70 a month married with clean record. Have a buddy thats not married hes on his 3rd one with 1 totaled claim and hes at $130 a month

So its pretty well set for me, I will be in Ouray June 29th to July 5th for my first Colorado trip this summer. I plan on getting at least two solid days of wheeling in while I'm there. the more that can make the trip the more trails I'll map out and try and plan. I'll be doing a fish taco fry on the 4th in my parents garage after all the daytime shenanigan's in town as well. Between me, my father, and a few good buddies of mine that are local to Ouray we always have a pretty good group to run with out there.

As far as trails go I want to make it a point to do Black Bear pass and Imogene one day. Then over Poughkeepsie, hit Animas Forks, and hang out in Silverton another day. I'm sure more will come up but that's what I'm feeling so far. Of course, the more people that come up, the more wheeling that can be planned!

If anyone will be, or can make the 4th happen do it! its always a good time. I will be making another trip though at the end of August or September if you miss out on the 4th.

So I just spent a little time going over Ouray, San Miguel, and San Juan county websites on current back country road conditions, Figured I'd share...

-Ouray county has most everything opened up with the exception of Imogene pass and a couple other roads they don't plow in the spring time.
-San Miguel county (Telluride) doesn't have much opened, hell Ophir pass isn't even open according to them... but Telluride has been discouraging off roading in every way they can and I'm pretty sure they only open up Imogene from their side anymore anyway.
-San Juan county (Silverton) hasn't updated their website since 2020... but they're really good about opening up a lot of turf by the 4th of July (if not all of it).

I'll be heading that way Friday and looking forward to kicking off the summer wheeling season up there, Plans are to leave my K5 up there for the summer and I'll be back up at a minimum the end of July, and again in September.

Maybe I can talk someone to go with me at the end of July....

Thanks for putting this together.

Again - to anyone that hasn't been to this region I highly suggest it. It's insane.

Yeah its a haul to get up there for sure, I'll keep dropping dates for my trips up there on here as they come though. I'll also try and document my trips up there better too. Hopefully after this summer the house up there will be a little further along and easier to have guests instead of the full blown disaster of a project it is now!

Keep me posted if you can make it happen, I'm looking at being back up there july 29th to aug. 5th...ish

So in my week up here, a lot of the passes are open and snow is melting quick. Ophir is open, corkscrew is open, engineer is open, cinnamon is open, California and hurricane are open and I’ve heard Imogene is being worked on. By end of July, I see no reason it will be open along with black bear.

We tried to get up to clear lake but the last few switch backs are snow covered. I coulda broke trail with a shovel but the rest of the crew with me was not having it lol.

High of 65-70 all week and green as fuck. The loop from silverton to engineer to lake city to cinnamon to silverton was fucking beautiful this year.

It was impressive how quickly the snow was melting last week, I need to get some of my pics posted up of the 1 day I got to spend on the trails. I figured you’d be up there and was keeping an eye peeled for you!

we spent one day out and about… went up to engineer, dropped back down to animas forks, did hurricane pass, California pass, and dropped out corkscrew gulch. Started with 5 vehicles and had one guy bail after doing engineer. It turned into a mad dash over California and down corkscrew to get a rental jeep back on time but still a good day.

We only made it out wheelin twice. We were going to head to Poughkeepsie to play on “the wall” but we didn’t even make it out of camp that day lol. That snow melted fast as hell!

Beautiful area. My wife and I love it there. Just did a real quick turnaround trip last weekend for the night to pick up some racing seats for the taco in montrose and grabbed a hotel in ouray for the night.
