So I have some baofeng hand held radios laying around and thought I’d try to program the popular race channels into.
I know nothing about this aside from the 5 minute YouTube video I skimmed through lol.

I’m using the chirp software and it gives me a ton of options for other channel specs aside from just the name and frequency number as seen on all the usual channel spreadsheets
Should I be worried about these other inputs?
I’ll attach a screenshot of the chirp software above a pci channel table for reference
Thanks in advance!

Talk to Steve G at rugged or I know a guy in riverside. I can DM you Steve’s number if you would like.

I have an old cop Motorola radio the dude in riverside got programmed for me but Steve G is the master. He will tell you what needs to be done.

I haven’t used Chirp or messed with a Baofeng in years, but turn all that stuff off and put it in narrow band. That’s also a super old list and I have no idea who you might be walking on using some of those frequencies.

Thanks for the info. I found an old rdc thread that said to do the same so that’s what iv done for now.

Is there an updated list of the basic necessity channels available?

Not really. The truth is, there’s no “list”. Desert racers have been pirating business band for decades and west-coast off roaders adopted (also pirated) it. We use GMRS almost exclusively. It’s way easier, doesn’t have the interference issues, and there’s no, “do you have this channel…?” Game when deciding which channel to use. GMRS - pick a channel and go play.

Try PCI... Jimmy, Rhiannon, maybe Austin or Dan200 at SDHQ, I have seen lists. hell @Cleandezert adam may have a list. there is shit out there and there are plenty of people "programing" the baofeng radios.

i have lists that are older than most of the people on DR. lol I had mikey program all of the CD boefang hand helds for us. and had @JosB do my 100watt kenwood... I am not tech savi enough to program shit.

I wonder who Baja Hid Tony was using back in the day, he used to sell reprogrammed Motorola police radios off eBay in assuming with all the channels listed on score, BITD, more ect.

i know my kenwood which was a police or fire radio came with a disk and connectors to program. Assuming he got something similar? its not hard once you know what you are doing... or so i am told from @JosB

The question to answer when programming radios is, who are you wanting to talk to? Figure out what they’re using and make sure your radio has those frequencies. Most people only ever use two or three frequencies but when they’re asked what they want programmed in their radios, the answer is usually “All of them!” 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

This statement works in so many ways... just change a quick word or two.

replace "frequencies" with "boobs"
and
Replace "programmed in thier radios" with "in thier face"
