I’m looking to remove powder coat from a set of walker evans wheels with little to no damage so I can polish them. Has anyone had any luck with the chemical stripping? Have any other suggestions?

I can tell you that bolting anything powdercoated onto a jetski will allow the powder coat to be pulled off in a big single sheet leaving nothing but white powdered aluminum where your nice parts used to be.

That isn't helpful but I absolutely hate powdercoating.

Don't even hassle with it! Just sell them to me! LOL (if they are either 5 on 5.5 or 8 on 6.5)

They’re 8x170, I’ve been looking for a set of polished og Robby Gordon wheels for forever. I’d be willing to trade if you got a set by chance?

I’ve been seeing dry ice blasting online. I wonder how that would work
I’ve used it to remove resin flashing after molding carbon/epoxy parts. But that’s on a mold released surface…. So I’m guessing it’s too gentle to blast off powder coat.

Best way I’ve found to remove powder coat is to drive your truck like an asshole in the dezert!!

I fucking HATE powder coated suspension bits.

All good options! For the sake of trying to do the least amount of damage I’m leaning towards some sort of a chemical strip and heated pressure washer.

Worst case scenario I can just have them repowder coated a more desirable color I guess.

Dang it! Wrong pattern for me ha ha! I don't...I'm a Walker guy.

I don't know an easy way other than chemical striping. We used to preheat the parts, then sand blasted them. Worked OK but defeats the purpose ur after. Hit up @dunhammetalprocessing they may be able to help u out.

How does the chemical stripping work out? I’ve talked to a couple powder coat shops about it and it sounds like it gets a majority of it off but still needs some added help via sandblasting or scrubbing to fully remove it.

Thanks for the lead with Dunham, I’ll give them a call Monday

I'm not quite sure as I have never used it. I have heard of it from a few people over the years. I would equait it to metal finishing where they use a corrosive to remove metal plating but not so aggressive to remove the aluminum. I am sure it does remove metal but probably nothing to worry about. I would give Dunham a call and see what they say.

I removed powder coat from a sandblasted steel frame using naval jelly. Coated it thick and wrapped in saran wrap overnight. Most of it turned to rubbery consistency that peeled right off but I had to scrape in some areas. It did leave a white haze on the bare steel so I would assume it would haze aluminum too but you may be able to polish it out.

My powder coating shop neighbor in Phoenix use 1010P or rim strip he said. production shop so he would buy large tanks of it and just rinse with water when done then sandblast and coat.

https://powderstrip.com/product/1010p/

It'as Methylene Chloride Stripper so you can maybe find it local but COMMIEOFRNIA I'm sure banned it because it works too good

Right on I appreciate the info. Looks like I can get a 5 gallon bucket of there quick cut #3 for about $350. I’m waiting on a quote from a company called linco industries to remove powder coat, polish and possibly re powder coat just the bead lock ring. They were referred by Dunham, the company @juberafab recommended.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I really appreciate it

I'm sure you guys aren't in Phoenix but Paul at AV powdercoating will strip anyone's parts that needs them stripped, or blasted or whatever if you don't need them coated.

I would definitely take you up on that offer, but phoenix is about 4 hours from me unfortunately
