Ive seen alot of funky shackle set ups over the years from stock ford or xj one piece spring shackles, teraflex shackles, three piece plate style with a tube bolted in the center or even old school double shackle. I'm curious on what everyone's current opinion is on this all around, stability, functionality esthetic?...... hell we could even get into early 4x4 long travel " ramp champ" set ups.

....also like the idea of slider boxes, but I haven't really had a situation where it made sense to utilize them.

i did individual sides without a connecting bridge on my old Toyota pickup rear shackles, seems common on lighter vehicles. i feel like it allows for more flex but don't have empirical data to support that claim. It seems like lighter vehicles ( Samurai )have a lot more creative shackles in service. I have heard bad things about slider boxes. do you have a particular vehicle in mind?

I don't really have anything specific in mind, more or less just opening conversation considering any aspect. My experience has mostly been leaning on the light wieght rock crawling mini truck side. A couple of build pictures on here have kind of continued my interest in leaf spring geometry. For example extra Long shackles mounted above the frame rails. I can see some major benefits, packaging, providing a shackle that allows for consistent spring compression, but also the down side of now having the rear end dancing around under 10" of shackle.

"Double shackles" seem to be a thing of the past, I ran a set for years that worked out great. My setup was a set a ford shackle bolted to a set of welded "h" shackles that ran horizontal to small bump stop on the frame rail most of the time unless under heavy articulation, which it would then lower. I have since landed more on the side of bumpstops limit straps and hanging a tire in the air as far as leaf sprung "rock crawling" goes. Just curious on if there are any wierd setups out there people are running an any aspects off road.
