Off road industry drama

@clouticorn on IG has been posting some funny MCD stuff that makes me lol since the guy is a goober. Phenomenal fabricator, still a goober.
He reminds me of John Joseph from the Cro-Mags

Same 5 stories rehashed over and over anytime a camera is put on him. Yes, amazing fabrication skills, but I don't care to hear about you dropping out of design school and getting fired from Kibbetech for the 700th time.

CORRECT. The dude was gifted two pages out of a dictionary and a bottle of roids haha. "And so over here you can see the provisions for the shocks" My guy, just call it a shock mount

i hear this more and more. He is a fucking artist, but this sport isnt about art too much. More function over form... So its lost on most of us. I dont pay attention to his posts anymore, because it doesnt talk to me.... But more power to him for making money and finding a cool nitch with the wealthy crowd.... cant fault him for that. So i agree not a giant fan of the word vomit, and trying to coin new terms for simple items.

Totally agree that his fab skills are on point, and some of the stuff is genuinely cool looking, but my goodness are some of his designs ugly. The dude definitely has a huge following of 'everything he makes is perfect' fanboys. But yeah, it'll take him three Shakespearean paragraphs to explain why they put a panel where they did... for the fifth video in a row

This is just my hot take. I love aluminum panel work likely more than most, but alot of the stuff I currently see from MCD seems overly complicated and super pretentious for no good reason.

Artistic influences and making things look nice is awesome, but it just seems over the top. I do admit I like the aerotube idea for the windshield bars on the cage.

I honestly much prefer the work I see coming from places like Izzy Fab, SMP (that white silverado and black tacoma are phenomenal imo) Dirtskum, etc.

It’s like custom hot rods, there are a ton of shops that could build you a muscle car or hot rod and it would be cool and do exactly what you want it to do. Then there’s shops like Foose, Kindig, Ring Brothers, etc. that take it that next level with their attention to detail and design. Most people either don’t want/need that level of detail of fit and finish much less able to afford it. But…. Some do

And that’s where I see MCD trying to wiggle in to. There will always be people that have to have “the best” and if you can deliver. Why not try to tap in to those deep pockets.

I also do appreciate some of the stuff he tries to explain fabrication wise in his videos, another perspective is always good to try to pick stuff up from

this is all very true. I tend not to care to look at those high end hot rods either.... because i cant afford them, nor do i want to drive something so nice. So likely i am a poor demographic for what they are selling.

I like to look, because I can really appreciate how much work and skill goes in to achieving that level of fit and finish. Knowing very well that I will never be in the market for one of those vehicles. It’s like looking at art

At the very least i can take some ideas from that stuff and do it myself

Think we can call it club 38 now.... not sure we want to see some of those pics.
There's still a few of them floating around i still wouldnt mind checking out haha

Art aint for me... just seems like its for weirdos and liberals. form and function over fashion any day. stuffs made to be used not sit on a shelf or in a glass box.

You can't tell me this looks good or belongs on a leaf sprung Tacoma. The owner is probably paying more for the panel work than it cost to build the rest of the truck (I do actually think the slash through the panels is cool, but the random blob shape of each panel is ugly)

Parts of this interior are cool, but as a whole it's trying so hard in every component that the individual components get lost

Like a space ship

That’s a little over the top

These "meme accounts" that spend their time trying to poke fun at other people is on a whole other level of failure. Imagine watching every move of a dude or company. Seeing something that is "funny" spending time creating videos so you can get views to build your IG account which is making you zero dollars. Meanwhile the dude you are making fun of is build his business making decent money and putting out the best product he can... Who is the real winner there ?

Can I afford for MCD to build me a truck ? 100% not. Do I like all that fancy luxury prerunner paneling? No not really? Does the customer paying for their truck to be built love it? Probably or he'd be changing it to their liking.

I think Mikey and I went to MCD house back in like 2007 or 2008 to pick up some parts other than that never talked to the guy. So can't chime in other than what I have heard from other buddies that know him. Outside looking in the dude working his ass off from a business, marketing (making videos, Social media etc,) stand point and physically is a unit. So pretty tough to hate on that. One thing is pretty clear dude is winning in the high end fabrication space .

You will never find a hater doing better than you. - goggins

There’s been so many pages on IG dedicated to making fun of Kibbe? I don’t get the hype around all the hate and can’t comprehend wasting so much of my own time to not only start a whole new page but then make and post memes and videos to get some likes. Seems like some serious retardation going on behind some of those pages.

better is a highly subjective term though.... coming from one opinionated asshole to the next the whole cockiness of some of these guys is what rubs me the wrong way and makes me just laugh at all the "hate" they get. I know my share of cool dudes in this industry and the ones who always get the "hate" are the ones imo who talk to much and really think they are cooler than they probably are.

I admire the skill's and patience to do the sheet metal dash and that work, but it's not for me since I'm about the smiles per mile and DGAF about how perfect the stuff flows together.

Also that panel work on the leaf sprung tacoma is cool but retarded for the truck. Let's put 20K in panel work on a truck that's not even linked or 100% capable offroad. I did paneling on a few trucks but simple, bead roll step set distance in from edges, mesh panels where fans need air to flow out of, but I'm not spending time aka customers money, on doing that stuff for aesthetics.

Never talked to the dude in person so can't really say. I've made enough judgements in the past about people and their online persona., and have been completely wrong. Realized most of the time guys are super cool and down to earth despite what their instagram highlight reel portrays.

Idk maybe I'm just getting old. Wtf do I know., I also talk too much but really know I'm not even close to cool. 🤡
