So this happened today
I thought it was absolutely hilarious and just felt like sharing but didn't know where to post, so here we are lol Definitely felt like a bad line good time kind of time
So I was just out scoping the desert for a new camp site and I came across this two track off the pavement with a bit of a berm built up from grading the shoulder of the road...
Typically I'd get out and double check any clearance issues, but the ground clearance on the Great White Jelly Bean has been suprising me more and more lately so I just decided to go for it... and then I heard it... the sound of debris rubbing up against the undercarriage
Of course, as anyone who's ever had a low ground clearance vehicle would know, this was no time for slowing down. That's how you get stuck. So I maintained my momentum and turned in a different direction in an effort to push through whatever I was scraping against and find a path of less resistance. And then I came to a stop. My torque converter just wasn't overpowering whatever I was up against. But I was already past the berm. I was on flat ground at this point! So I put it in reverse and... nothing. I put it in low and... nothing. I turned the wheel to the left. I turned the wheel to the right. Shit. I was stuck. Well this is embarrassing It's been ages since I've gotten stuck!
So I got out to assess my situation before I made it worse and when I saw what was going on I just laughed my ass off! How in the hell did I not see that thing?! It's freaking huge!
Okay. So the rear tire just couldn't get up and over it. Whatever. No biggy.
I crouched down to pull it out and, nope. Hell no. No I was ON that thing lmao! I mean the body was actually resting on the rock and I was dragging it like a sled for like a good foot or two.
I stepped back, scratched my head for a second, and that's when I realized... yeah this ain't my first rodeo. This ain't NOTHING compared to some of the situations I've been in. This was an easy one. I don't even have to get my hands dirty.
I grabbed and angled rock nearby, stuck it behind the front tire, hopped back in the car, threw it in reverse, and let the front wheel drive do it's thing and crawl backwards onto the smaller rock I placed behind the front tire. Once I felt the car climb onto the highest point of the rock, I got back out, walked around, and pulled the big rock out and threw it to the side of the road. I hopped back in the car and drove off! Just like that. Too easy mate.
I cruised down the two track just laughing to myself. How could I not see that thing?! I mean, that probably could've been a lot worse. But at the end of the day, experience took the cake on this one.
I kept driving and kept laughing... "Well, if that wasn't a bad line good time I don't know what is!"
And now I have a rock crawling Mazda Protegé lol. I mean look at the ground clearance on this thing!
And just for funsies, here's a few more pictures I've taken lately...
I mean, good line choice gets you places in things you probably shouldn't be going in
Really been enjoying camping in the desert lately...
And twilight was really pretty tonight. I think it inspired me to pull out the camera soon
✌
