Need to replace my yellow top Optima and was wondering what everyone else is running? Making the jump over Odyssey? What else is there? I got 3 years out of the yellow top so I can’t be too mad.

Okay, it'll be probably another year till I actually need to buy a battery for my sh<@>#&tbox but...........

back in the day (meaning 10+ years ago when my trucks/building shit was my life) Optima's were the beezkneez. "forever and always"


i made 2 trays for 2 optima's in my truck.

and now........... they're dog shit supposedly and mine are depleted. (big word Jakey! good job!..... i think that's the right word?) and no one has anything good to say about them. unless you buy brand new ones, that are like 69 years old, and unless you buy them from Epstein....... and unless you put one...

Hi guys, so I'm getting ready to do a SAS on my 1988 Toyota pickup with a 22re and I want to address my battery situation. It's a traditional car battery and there is a bunch of corrosion coming out of the fill holes and spilling onto the fenders causing rust and I just hate it ( no performance issues tho ). Also knowing that my truck is going to be doing some cool shit I've heard that they can tend to spill on steep inclines and rough terrain. I'm also going to have a winch and lights so I'm not sure if that right there is going to warrant the upgrade. my questions being what do you guys...

Have had good luck with Odyssey for the last 19 years. Still use them today.

I’ve had horrible luck with batteries lately, especially in the AZ heat. I’m considering just running two cheap group 34s from Walmart. $110 each and if they last two years… well so would Optimas or anything else for 3x the price.

Cant vouch for Odyssey- Had one in my wifes suburban it lasted 3 years. Not any better than the standard batteries.

About to buy something - was thinking AGM Walmart too. Unless there’s something much better for a little more.

This kind of questions are great conversation starters, like my uncle has a Walmart battery that lasted 25 years and well my Optima lasted 45 years, without any real outcome IMO but here's my opinion anyways.
Buy a AGM battery so that you don't have to worry about acid leaking and you can install in any orientation.
So the real question to your question is, how many years of warranty do you want to afford? because it seems like they all die just past the warranty period. I personally buy the 4 year warranty Duralast Platinum from Autozone, they have great CCA and haven't had any issues inside the warranty period.
For my buggy I have a Optima Yellowtop that has treated me great but time will tell, that one has a 3 year warranty.
