We already have Thursday night MTB rides which are a blast. Who is free earlyish on Mondays and wants to start a more constant meetup for hiking. I get off work Mondays at 1330 in Newbury Park and plan on getting out regularly after that. Targeting south Ventura / very north LA counties, but could be convinced to travel further for the right trail. Target is 3-5 miles with some elevation.
@4lowlance and I are meeting at Sandstone Peak parking lot around 1430 today to either do the Mishe Wonkwa and Sandstone Peak loop or the Grotto trail.

It was a little warm so we just did Sandstone up and back. 3.37 miles 1205 ft. I think we might shoot for the top of Boney from the same start next week. Maybe see if we can get to the caves from the back side.

Yesterdays hike with @4lowlance. I had allergy issues about the half way point and had to pop some Benadryl. We skipped Tri-peaks and the caves due to my issues, but still a great hike.

Looking at the Strava map there are four other prominent peaks in the immediate area Besides Sandstone @3110. Sandstone is the highest point in the Santa Monica mountains. There is Boney Mountain @2837, Tri-peaks @3008, Big Dome @2910 and Exchange Peak @2949. All of them would be off the same trail loop in one way or another with spur trails to the peaks except maybe Boney Mountain. That one would be a little further out. We could probably hit Big Dome and Tri Peak in a single day by just extending the loop some.

I was just looking at the STRAVA map on the PC. I should probably find a better app based map for hiking that shows routes and trails. Or get a Garmin that will work on my bike and on my feet.

this is rad... Would totally be down but if I add anymore extracurriculars into my life 300% chance my wife will install me in the wood chipper and this this forum will be invaded by Southwest Airlines Viagra ads.

So for now I'm out... But keep it up boyz.

I made a last minute desision to do a hike from work yesterday. Sorry @4lowlance. I was expecting a survey marker at the top of Elliot Mountain (no relation to @dwphoto ;)) but could not find one.
I did grab a rock for my new "peak souvenir" rock collection idea. I thought of it at the top of Tahquitz Peak last week. The idea is to grab a rock at the top of peaks of prominince, label it with a sharpie of the date/location/elevation. I have a planter with some palms that I already have some other shells and other souvenirs at their base.

Just think of it as leg day. You could even add some weight to your day pack for a more "ruck" type expierience. But I would rather you join your Thursday bike rides before starting hiking. ;)

I actually have a weighted vest that I think goes up to 60 or 80 lbs. Thing would be brutal to hike with. Thanks for visiting my mountain. Look like I'm gunna be out the next couple months with Connor having hockey on Thursday... Dad Lyfe

Sounds like you need to start a alternate ride night... :p

And yes 60-80 lbs would be rough. I was thinking 20-30 would be interesting.
