Autobody / fiberglass recommendations

is there anyone who does decent Autobody / fiberglass work amongst us in the SoCal area?

I have a 1997 4runner it appears to originally been from Michigan, but been on the west coast Oregon and California most of its life but it has had some body work done to it. Bondo in he quarter panel, and im starting to see rust bubbles in the rain run off areas / weather stripping around the top of a door, and a spot about the size of a 1/2 dollar in one of the rocker panels.

id like to get this cleaned up and the rust stopped and then do some simple clean up, its an off road rig afterall i just dont want it to get worse. Not looking for show car rehab just something that makes me happier it is stopped / fixed.

Any recommendations?

100% DIY if it’s an off-road truck. The few times I’ve binged YouTube on auto body repairs and then tried what I watched, there’s definitely a learning curve, but I’d say it’s hard to get worse lol. Don’t need a lot of tools either.

when its not a couple hour or half day project its hard to just jump into it my self. Its my kids daily driver for one and i know ill either cause bigger holes or it'll take longer than expected to half ass it. but i get it, either pay to have it done and its going to be more than i want to fork out or just find the time for some DIY work.

I did some hideous cutting and bondo work 25 yrs ago on an old ranger that I had. Was a fun project and slight learning experience. The good news is that the materials were fairly inexpensive, it was just more time/labor than anything else.

I hear @juberafab LOVES autobody work, maybe he/they have some pointers?

Learning a skill for your kid to have to not be dependent on others. If it’s an off-road truck and you don’t care about it being pretty, who cares? If it takes. A couple of days, who cares? Nothing will beat that first hand experience he’ll get. He can do research on how to do it, learn to use tools, rather than than asking people online to come over and teach him how to use his tools. Learning to be self sufficient is where it’s at.

Nor am I, I just don’t like to hack my way though shit if there a solution that makes it easier to accomplish the task. I’m not afraid to pay for something if it’s not in my wheel house. But on the other hand I’m not afraid to jump head first if the advice or help I’ve asked tends to be the kind that’s encouraging vs know it all and condescending.

I’ve been around the block long enough to know there are some very genuine, helpful, knowledgeable people on these forums

I don’t think @the bodj was coming from a bad place there. One thing I will say is that the rain is probably done for this year (now watch it absolutely pour next week) and you don’t have to worry about is water getting through any holes if the damage is that bad. Pics? I’d be interested to see the damage.
