Planning a trip from Trona to Bishop through Death Valley and was wondering if there is reliable fuel by Amargosa Dunes.
Plan so far is to meet up in Trona, wheel into DV a bit and camp, play tourist for a day than camp in Echo Canyon (reserved side of the spots already) and end up in Beatty via the dunes the next day.
We want to play in the dunes for a bit and are trying to carry as little fuel as possible.
Will the 6 gallons I normally carry be cool and I'm just overthinking this or will we get eaten by sandpeople?
TIA

I assume you're talking about the "Big Dune Rec Area" off the 95, right? There is a gas station at the T of 373 and 95 in Amargosa Valley which is a couple miles south of the dunes if you have to back track for gas. If not, Beatty has quite a few gas stations but thats obviously farther.

Theres gas in Beatty and theres gas where the 95 and 373 meet.

Are you planning to top-off in furnace creek before hitting echo canyon? What vehicle are you driving? Are you aware of the steps in echo canyon? I watched a bunch of landcruisers bounce and hop their way up it years ago and it was a little intimidating to me (I was on a dual sport). If you top-off in furnace creek I would think 6 gallons would be plenty of "just in case" gas.

Thanks !!!
Plan is top off in Furnace Creek before we hit the canyon.
Group of 5 6G Broncos. 3 of us are on 37's, 2 on 35's.
We're out of the Sacramento area and are plenty experienced in the rocks. Haven't seen or heard of the steps but sounds like fun.
Still kinda piecing together the rest of the trip but plan is to leave on the 12th, spending a night in Alabama Hills than hitting the trail on the 13th, ended up back in Big Pine by Friday the 18th. About 400 miles in total.
We don't get down there much so trying to make the most of it and play tourist along the way.
Thanks again 🍻

You guys will be fine. The step(s) was bigger than I thought it would be, but Id think you guys will be able to handle it no problem. And gas-wise I think youll be fine (famous last words).
Check out Rhyolite and titus canyon after beatty. Both really easy drives. Maybe hit Ubehebe (sp?) after titus?

Have a good time and post up some pics after you make it home!

Yes I did the drive from Vegas to mammoth and I went through Beatty and then Rhyolite and titus canyon to ubehebe crater then continued over to the 395 and to mammoth. I was in my lifted Dodge ram 3500 and was all just graded dirt roads the route I was going.
