Threw on some 33” patagonias, YJ springs out back, custom leaf pack in the front and some new PRP seats.
Got it prepped and painted it caterpillar #2 to match the OG samurai.
Been bringing this old 88 samurai back to life and figured I’d share.
Little background for you guys. My dad built an 88 samurai in the late 90’s/early 2000’s that I grew up wrenching on and driving. He sold it around 07. I found the current owner about 5 years ago but unfortunately have been...
Thanks for the info. I recently changed a few things, one of them being lengthening the kingpin spread to 10”. I’ll take a look at the camber curve and see if I have to make any more changes.
Looking for input on a few center mount concept I drew up for my Manx. Will be based around a 31” tire so the KPI/SAI is about 15* at the spindle (0* camber).
1st concept:
24.125” lower control arm
21.75” upper control arm
6” separation between upper arm pivots at bulkhead
6” separation...
Mounted a JK antirock up front and made some spring sliders with a tender to keep the coil from unseating. Night and day difference in handling after adding the sway.
Quick test trip to ocotillo/truck haven was a success. Jeep worked well and drove home without any issues. Doing 5.38’s and lockers this weekend as well as new unit bearings up front and rear wheel bearings. Hoping to get going on a cage and coilovers here soon.
Coil buckets/track bar mount are done. Also threw in IRO 8” coils in the front which have a #50 heavier rate than the springs they are replacing. So far the added spring rate has been a night and day difference in handling both on and offroad.
My track bar mount tried to delete itself last weekend.
New coil bucket with integrated track bar mount and some more plating in the unibody should fix my issues 🤘🏻
No cutting of the firewall. Had to cut and fold the pinch welds and beat in the firewall about 1/2”. The front and rear are pushed out about 2”. The rear fender well is cut and reshaped. Took about 4” off all the way around it.
Mounted up some Baja designs S1 flush mounts in the front bumper. Should work well in the rocks. I Have a pair of squadrons that will go on the a pillars once the cage gets started.
Original coil buckets were not strong enough to withstand the abuse of an air bump. Scrapped them and made a “double shear” bucket that will hopefully hold up. So far it’s held up to the abuse I’ve thrown at it.
Old coil bucket after a few hard hits
