I’d love to hear everyone’s recommendations for my 94 ranger. I think I’ll clear 35’s but I’ve got a 3.0 so I’m worried it’ll be too slow to enjoy. I love the idea of a tensor but I heard they wear too fast on the road. Is there anything similar? I have a 15x7.5 rim right now!

Are you planning on re-gearing it for whatever size tires you eventually get?

That said, I used to swear by BFG all terrains... until I ran the general grabber X3 on the same truck and in the same size, and realized the BFGs sucked ass in comparison (in every category, but especially their pavement-handling characteristics).

Get a tall skinny if you can. Get the diameter but cut the weight and resistance of the wider options.
For mixed use I've been enjoying the kenda rt. Their new tires are much better than what they used to offer.

Yeah I plan on fitting an explorer axle under my Ranger and regear when needed. Oh noted I’ll look into them a little more!

Really you’ve had good luck with them? Does your truck see the road or do primary put dirt miles on it?

It's on an excursion that we tow with, camp with, and general back country Colorado things. Over 20k on them currently in a 35-12.5-20 and been super pleased.
We don't do crawling or heavy rocks with this thing obviously. Just lots of gravel, 3" minus, dirt, snow, and road miles.

Oh nice, I’m really debating 35’s over 33’s but I’m afraid my truck will be too slow. On all streetable 35’s the are 12.5 wide which just seems like a ton of weight.

I drove my prerunner as my daily for nearly a decade. 35s and 4.86s with a 2.3 motor. Id do it again. If I could change one thing I would have gone with lower gears, maybe 5.14 or 5.29 for example. 5th gear only worked well downhill. The larger tire and increased tire squish really helped thru the desert, it also taught me to plan my line and carry my speed. The motor and all parts hung on until about 300k when the 2.3 finally was retired.

Do 35s! A 10.5 or 11.5 width may be the way to go!

I don’t have a ton of miles on them yet but put some Maxxis Razr ATs on the power wagon and love them. Also just some some Nexen Roadian ATXs on the wife’s Tahoe, I like the look of them but don’t have enough miles to have a good opinion yet

It had some older KM3s on the power wagon and they started to chunk pretty badly. Have some KO2s on my Tahoe and they have me feeling meh. Had some Patagonia MTs on it prior and they were good until they weren’t. Same thing, started to chunk pretty badly.

That’s awesome!

dang that’s awesome! I can’t seem to find any 10.5x11.5 wide that seem to be good on the road. What were you using back then? I love your Ranger.
