Opinions? Solid/welded one piece spring shackles, two piece, ect?

Ive seen alot of funky shackle set ups over the years from stock ford or xj one piece spring shackles, teraflex shackles, three piece plate style with a tube bolted in the center or even old school double shackle. I'm curious on what everyone's current opinion is on this all around, stability, functionality esthetic?...... hell we could even get into early 4x4 long travel " ramp champ" set ups.
 
i did individual sides without a connecting bridge on my old Toyota pickup rear shackles, seems common on lighter vehicles. i feel like it allows for more flex but don't have empirical data to support that claim. It seems like lighter vehicles ( Samurai )have a lot more creative shackles in service. I have heard bad things about slider boxes. do you have a particular vehicle in mind?
