Nitrogen pressure / ride height question

I put some lift coils on my kids 4runner over the weekend and a shock hoop plus a 12” 2.5 shock with comp / rebound adjuster.

The springs are for like 3” of lift but also supposed to carry 300 lbs off the ass end (spare tire, swing out bumper, etc.) we will have a spare tire and some odds and ends but not 300 lbs worth of crap. I want to lower the shock pressure from 180 psi it’s at now to something less in hopes it will be softer and sag down a little.

Is that dumb? What would you suggest vs getting new springs? If we have to add weight to the ass end we can do that with a bumper eventually but that isn’t going to happen any time soon.

This picture is with out any weight in the trunk, I should have taken a pic with the spare tire in there but haven’t yet.

Thanks!!

I wouldnt lower the shock pressure any lower than 150psi. That being said, you arent going to acheve what youre wanting doing that anyways. I'd get it finished, add all your gear in the back and see if it settles later on. Worst case, new springs.

Yup, that’s what it’s sounding like, springs are possibly something to do and they are not that expensive these days and easy to change so looking like that’s probably the best path forward if it doesn’t settle with some of the shit we’re going to pack into it.

Always add gear up the back for weight to get the correct ride height and ride comfort. I never tune a truck until I'm 100% done with all that I want to do to it. Everyone starts adjusted before other stuff is finished then you adjust it back to where it first was because you were still adding other parts of the truck, so you ended wasting all that time. Do you have anything done to the front? It looks low, plus you have bigger tires in the rear, troughing it off.

I would drop the PSI and loud up the rear with all kinds of crap for the time being.

Hi Geoff,

the front is getting a coil over and total chaos arm on it currently. The tires in the rear in that picture are what will be on all 4 corners once everything is done hopefully this weekend. I have a 5th wheel and tire for a spare, gonna throw a jack in the trunk, and some other odds and ends and see where we are. Id like to do a nice heavy duty rear bumper too, so i think we will get to the weight needed, i was just hoping for a temporary fix but sounds like there really isnt a quick temporary fix worth the time or money

I just realized you are Double G! Haha. Just take all the nitrogen out. I’m just throwing some garbage back there for now. Do you still have those pivots you wanna exchange now that I’m closer to you?

It has toytec superflex 3 inch lift coils in the back.

Actually leveled out after doing the front stuff so we’re actually looking good. I have 180 or so psi in all four shocks and just a stock spare tire in the rear. We will figure out alittle more to get some weight back there but I’m happy now.
