What kind of liability or customer recourse is there for a mechanic that has charged pretty good amounts of money to “fix” an intermittent CEL that keeps coming back even though though being told this last fix would fix it for sure.

I’ve been chasing a P1093 code on my 2002 gmc sierra lb7 246k miles and have spent a considerable amount of money doing what the mechanic says will fix the issue. Thought we were through the woods with complete injector job last month but drove it to Santa Barbara this weekend and coming home today up the grade from Carlenteria on the 101 at the crest of the hill it threw the code again.

Sooo back to mechanic this week to see what he says. But at this point I dont want to spend more of my hard earned money on it. What can be done? I’ve thought of contacting the BAR, thoughts have been to yelp The shit outa the business, but also hoping they are going to do the next fix for free.

Anyone got any advice?

Gregg

Find a different/more reputable diesel tech?
Easier said than done in this area, but yes. I will not ever use or recommend this place after this mess is figured out. They have decent reviews some good some bad. Bad reviews seem to be similar to the types of issues. I’m experiencing where they chase a problem. But the personal recommendations made me feel OK about having them work on our vehicle. If they do not want to work with us somehow free labor, free parts something for this next go round I will use a different mechanic and maybe look into further action possibly.

Gregg, put a new rail pressure sensor in (GM one). Then a lift pump might be what you need. Right now your CP3 (high pressure fuel pump) is acting as the lift pump and as a high pressure pump. CP3's are expensive and a pin to change on that truck. Simple things first.

it has an FASS filter system and pump thingy but not the external lift pump, we did a new Fuel pressure relief valve, and we have done an injector job. we have spent more than the thing is probably worth at this point with this particular mechanic.

you can drive for months daily driving until you have to go up a decent grade / hill or I'm towing a trailer is when the code will throw. its Asking for 23K desired Fuel pressure and actual is like 20K.
