My 7 year old daughter and I did this hike. We didn't go the whole way as she caps out at about 5 miles, but it was super disappointing, to be honest. The hike is not difficult if you start on the further South leg and make your way up into the valley, but it is a fire road in a fairly green valley, with no tree cover and minimal views (other than the valley), I'm sure we would have gotten more ocean views as we climbed. I would not do it again, but it is all about the experience and now I know.
For reference, we hike near our home in San Dimas, so we hike Marshall Canyon, Bonelli Park, and Antonivich trail. All of which offer a more interesting and "technical" (I'm using that term loosely) experience in a range of hike distances.
Here is the link to the hike from the Hiking Guy. He does some good things on Youtube if you are interested in day hikes.
