Last month we did a day trip to pioneer town and back.

The original plan was to meet in angelus oaks take Clark’s grade up into big bear
Drive through big bear and drop down the back side of big bear to end up in pioneer town for lunch then reverse the order to come home.

- most of the gates to get into big bear are closed at top but not the entrance to the trail. If you get creative you can usually get around…. But we figured we better play it safe,
-not that it mattered but it was also the “no kings protest” up there that day and we didn’t want to get caught up in potential traffic or other none sense.

So we met up in angelus oaks then took the 38 to bypass the trail and bigbear city to NF 2N01 broom flats trailhead to start the day

^at the trailhead airing down and what not.

We had a wide range of vehicles in our group that day
A couple jeeps
A couple go fast trucks
A tundra
And a explorer

I was riding shotgun in my dads xj for the trip

2N01 runs into another trail, I forget the name, but puts you out in a really cool area where the pine trees and Joshua trees grow together.

From here we I believe we took the rattle snake canyon trail,
It was a fairly easy trail, lots of loose rocks, not really an issue for any of the trucks.
Untill the tundra lost 4wheel drive

That was the only time we had to drag him 🤘🏻

he’s gonna need tires soon
😂

One of The break hardlines going to the front axle had fatuiged and broke, it was in a weird spot that I didn’t think had any movement but it certainly did. Luckily Brian- in the explorer came prepared with extra braided breakline and plenty of fluid 👍

Rookie mistake not having that stuff in the tool box….

Looks like I’m getting a handy down there lol

Anyways back on the trail 👍

When joes ranger stopped running
we nailed it down to a fuel issue.

It was hot so we thought it was vapor locking,

We chased it back to the fuel pump, bled it off and let it cool down and it fired and ran

We almost made it to the 247 before it died again.

The explorer drug him to the highway where the ranger started and ran, so we just took the highway to pioneer town incase we needed to get a trailer or tow truck. He made it all the way 👍

pioneer town is a wild place. You have greasy dusty guys that have been out in the dirt all day,
family’s coming in to see the town
super dressed up people coming from LA
the locals
And what ever type of group is coming to see the band at pappies
That day was full blown Goths lol

From there Danny and Joe took the highway home, and the rest of us headed back up the hill on 2N02 burns canyon.

We stopped back off at the shade tree for some beverages and a cigar, also to let the trucks cool down

From there went back to big bear and back home. 👌
