Another one for the books
11 rigs
31 humans
2 dogs
Builds from mild to wild, we had multiple trail fixes, tons of body damage, lots of good food, laughs around campfire stories.
If you had been following my build thread https://forum.badlinesgoodtimes.com/threads/toyotally-awesome-1987-4runner.7/post-32741 you already know the work put in over the last 3 months getting the 3RZ into the 4runner was just done in the Knick of time.
Buttoned up the last of it the night before the trip
she was ready for battle (I hoped)
Loaded the truck up on to the trailer loaded the squad up to head 7 hrs North to Chris' parents cabin in Pollock Pines to meet up with @vcyota92 and Chris and James.
Had a super scary moment towing down into Gorman. Trailer started to wag on the down hill. Was one of those moments I wasn't sure if I should speed up or slow down. I tried to speed up and it didn't help so went to grab brakes and for a moment it felt like I had nothing. Thankfully I was now almost at the bottom of the hill and starting to go backup the hill trailer straighten out but it was seriously sketch. Like top 10 sketchiest moments of my driving career.... Considering I had the whole family loaded up. Took some deep breaths and calmed myself down Got off the freeway in Frazier park and moved the truck about a foot forward and adjusted the trailer brake setting.. Made a world of difference towed the rest of the way up to with out issue. In fact once I had enough tongue weight It was like the trailer wasn't even there.
We hit the rack pretty early. The rest of the group stayed at @sdecurti folks place or at the trail head We had about an hr drive to Loon lake where we would dump the truck and trailers and begin our quest.
We parked the trailers and loaded the rest of our crap in to the rigs
just as we were about to roll out a group of 10 new broncos rolled in and started the trail Thursday at 10 am
We quickly caught them at the gate keeper.
They made their way through letting us know they would let us by once they got to the bowl area
33s vs 38s
we made out way through and went in for the pass on the bronco group
Headed down to the beer tree to regroup.
We all regrouped after a bit and had to do a quick drive shaft repair on the XJ
as the Broncos squeaked by us...
