What’s up everyone,
This is my dumpster lol
1988 Jeep Cherokee XJ
Good ol high mileage 4.0 with an automatic stock 231tcase.
Dana 44 4.88 gears with locker
9” 4.88 gears welded
(Was told they came from a 77-79 F150 or Ful size bronco)
I snagged it off marketplace for wayyyy cheap and it was in rough shape. Got it home in time to hit the Leduc Swap meet for some seats and 40’s lol
It took a lot of grinding and cutting to remove some of the atrocious fab work previously done.
some pictures of when I picked it up. I’ll try to keep this interesting…..🥴

started out with small things like cutting the terrible “bumpers” off. Just trying to get a game plan for how I was going to un-frick this thing

God a killer deal from a friend who had some brand new “vintage” Allied rock-a-thon beadlocks circa 2009 got my best helper bolting up the 40’s from the Leduc Swapmeet

Snagged these killer seats from the swapmeet too…. Sorry to the guy whose buddy sold them to me while he was asleep. He was very upset ($300 was too good to pass up) two fronts and a matching bench.

Here is where things got sketchy…..
The lower links it had vs what I put together using some Johnny joints from poly performance and some 1.5” .250 wall dom

The rear is some Chevy 63’s that for some reason they had the leafs clamped to the overloads and some sketchy stacked blocks. Got rid of those by doing some +2 stretch U-bolt eliminators from rough stuff specialties. The shackles are still wildly ghetto but they work 🤷🏻‍♂️ also added a B-Fab pinion guard that took a beating this past weekend.

Couple final things I had to get done before we went to the rubicon trail was a winch mount that I decide to tuck in deep below the radiator for a better approach angle and to open up the rear wheel wells to fit the tires.

Final assembly complete and taking it to its first run. “It’s not pretty but it’s also not a show car” lol famous last words of a mediocre fabricator.
Bucket list trail complete and no real repairs needed after 3 days of pretty hard wheelin.

Just realized this was in the Prerunner section and should have gone to the rock crawler posts 🤦🏻‍♂️ any mods able to move it?

Looks cool as shit on the 40s 👍 what’s the steering situation?
Thanks I almost went 37’s but these 40’s were roughly $72 a tire lol (we bought 9 of them at the Leduc Swapmeet for $650)
Steering is just some high steer arms with a 1ton Y-link style and a West Texas Off-Road hydro assist. All the ball joints on the steering linkage are now shot so I’ll be switching to 7/8” heims and probably 1” .250 wall tube. Had no probs turning the 40s no real binding issues and no loss in steering feel. Thank god my pump is still strong lol
