Finally got the axles out from storage and got them into the backyard. Spent all day grinding the cast iron perches off the housing and stripping the rear axle down.
The wheel bearings are absolutely cooked, so my initial idea of being a scumbag and just tossing gears into them, welding the...
4Runners been out of commission with a bent front driveshaft that I haven’t had the time to take out and rebend straight, and a BFG sticky that won’t stop leaking out of the sidewall.
On the plus side, the Toyota axles have buyers once I yank them out.
I’m just waiting on my dad’s sick ass...
Those 4 speeds are cool, they have the “1 ton” package which means they should have an 8” 30spl Diff instead of a 7.5” 27spl.
Should be super tall rear gears too like a 3.08 or 3.43
We have one as a shop truck here and thing does like 30 in 2nd gear
I recommend not putting the battery back up front, it's a major contributing factor to the front aprons and core supports cracking and tearing, if you decide to throw a stock clip on it.
I have a a guy that parts out 84-95 yotas, and probably has everything located in SoCal if you want his...
Not much to report other than wheeling and enjoying it, Thanksgiving got cut short by a buddy snapping a trunnion pin and needing an emergency knuckle rebuild, the recovery was fun,
I landed on the front driveshaft and bent it enough to start hitting the crossmember, and the transmission...
Had a Sick ass Taco with all the goodies stop by the shop, check out the rear bypass setup. Owner said he gets 16” out of a 10” shock. Super rad that he got to keep the full bed.
1. Get my 1 Tons into the 4runner
2. Get something for a stock mobber, like a ranger or something. The current rig is a little too extreme and rough for the missus.
3. Finally make a rubicon trip happen. I always end up with the truck torn down by the time that season rolls around
The weldability aspect of these "Steel" paints has always been entertaining to me. They weld just about as good as any other paint that you blast through :ROFLMAO:
If I had to offer any Armchair Diag advice, the TPS units on these go out and cause a gnarly stumble, but luckily still available new from Toyota. Bad fuel pressure regulator and pulsation dampers can cause it to fall on it's face too.
Or you just dig holes with the tailgate when you try and hit waterfalls, I have a customer’s 3rd gen pickup with a nice bob that ends at the frame in the shop, I walked out there to put a tape measure on it and you get about 60” of bed this way.
