Escaping the AZ summer heat and life has got in the way a bit but finally have the swingers and center link tacked into place close to “stock” geometry.
Now onto frame plating with integrated steering box install and then a pitman arm & drag link.
Continued forward progress - motor mounts tack in place, boxed frame, and made a trans crossmember. Need to order some 1.5x .120 tube clamps to finish up the trans mount.
Followed up with cutting off the stock steering mount and grinding off the leftover metal to start mocking up the swing...
Quick little update:
I have most of the swing steer system designed and laser cut. Waiting on parts to arrive to start welding it together to mock up in the frame and finalize dimensions for the swingers. Using a Saginaw box from a K1500, and will do a pancake-style pitman arm.
Motor mounts...
Almost finished mounting bumps on upper arms, just need to add a bump pad on top of the uniball and one tube supporting from the shock tower.
Now working on engine placement and designing a swing steering setup.
More progress on the front rebuild. New dash tubes and cab cage tie ins. Still working on an engine cage to frame tie in that I like visually.
Hope to knock out remaining tube this week and then get motor/trans in place and mounted.
She’s been down a few times… First trip was a 1500 mile round trip with a friend 1 year into ownership after having issues getting it to run for 20 minutes. Hit zoo road in SF and immediately destroyed the rear limit straps and started on adventure to get it fixed in Ensenada before going to...
Fixed some shoddy cage construction where original owner chose to box out part of the tube clear the fuse panel with some 1.5” .120 sleeves and a section of 1.75” .120. Holes have been drilled on new and original tubes for rosettes.
Now I’m onto the getting the frame fixed from hammers, I...
Demo continues and getting my 2 stall garage shop optimized for fab.
Picked up a tube bender from marketplace and getting ready for new cage tie ins, dash bar, etc.
Thanks appreciate it. Tire is a BFG KM3 UTV in 35x11 on a 7.5” wide wheel, ~30% lighter than the 35x12.5 on a 16x9.
35x11 w/ wheel 70lbs
315/75R15 w/ wheel 100lbs
Makes a big difference with a small motor!
Havent been on here in a while, but I finally moved to a place that gives me more space to work on my own stuff - definitely an upgrade from a single-car garage at a condo. I was able to prep the truck and make it to Hammers, but I ended up ripping part of my engine cage off when removing the...

Thanks Geoff good to know for future builds and if I decide to pull the stock dash when I motor swap.
I went with some solid metal that I had cut out by Send Cut Send which I hope alleviates some movement.
