Hey did you ever find a solution? I have 97 ranger 4.0 auto. Anytime I get the evap code, I replace the purge valve and solenoid. Motorcraft parts lasted the longest, then switched to the cheaper alternative with lifetime replacement. Now I just swap them out when code comes.

I gotta stop looking at this truck, I’m starting to look at my ranger with a side eye. Glws
